2015 10 Minutes by Tractor Blanc de Blancs Sparkling

Region: Mornington Peninsula, VIC

Viticulture: Sustainable

Winemaker: Imogen Dillon, Martin Spedding

Established Date: 2000

The Chardonnay  grapes were hand-harvested, and transferred directly to press, with the first 500 litres per tonne of fruit (cuvée) collected to be used exclusively for this wine. The juice was then stirred and sent directly to old French oak barriques where an indigenous yeast fermentation proceeded before the wines lees were stirred over the course of the winter period. The base wine was then assembled and tiraged to bottle. After a period of 23 months on its yeast lees, the wine was riddled and disgorged before the dosage was made and then bottled sealed with cork.

All chardonnay taken from the wallis vineyard. 4grams dosage. On lees for 4 and a half years.

Sommelier’s Recommendation

An amazing blanc de blancs, A real sense of richness at first both on the nose and palate. Then the crisp green apple cuts through and livens things up, great length and acidity. Quality winemaking over a long period of time is required to make a sparkling wine of this quality. Fine bubbles that dance over the tongue and a long lingering finish of biscuit and brioche.

The original winery started in 1997 with three family owned vineyards in Main Ridge, all ten minutes by tractor apart. In 2003, Martin Spedding bought Ten Minutes by Tractor Wine Co. from the three families and since then we have opened a new cellar door, restaurant and added four new vineyards.

All our vineyards have their own unique character with different aspects, slopes, soils, altitude and cool ocean breezes which flow through the valleys from Bass Strait, Western Port and Port Phillip. As described by Martin Spedding “Put simply, our future is clear – grow the best fruit we can, make wines that express the character of their origin and continue to put them in front of people who appreciate the difference.”
