A Southern Italian white variety, half grown in Georgia’s Paddock and half from commercial Heathcote fruit. Made at Jasper Hill. Partly fermented in French oak barriques giving extra weight, it has rich flavours of crisp green apple and cleansing acidity – delightful power.”
Sommelier’s Recommendation (3-5 lines)
I’ve always been a fan of Jasper Hill wines so when I discovered their fiano I was pretty excited. Delicious notes of crisp red apple jump out the glass at you. Lovely lemon zest on the palate, the wine has a nice weight to it making it a great food wine.
Viticultural practices are simple: own rooted vines (ie. not grafted on to American rootstocks to confer Phylloxera resistance), no irrigation whatsoever, minimal tillage, natural inter-row mulching leading to broad bio-diversity, very low yields giving depth and intensity to our wines. Only hand pruning of the vines and hand harvesting of the fruit can allow us the human connection to our living soil.
