The ‘classic’ wine of the estate is a blend of 85% Prugnolo Gentile with Colorino, Canaiolo and Mammolo from clones of their own old vineyards. Harvest is done manually, using small baskets and crates so as to maintain fruit integrity and freshness. After destemming and soft pressing, the grapes ferment in stainless steel. After Fermentation. the wine matures in Allier and Slavonian oak barrels for 18-24 months. A light filtration is carried out before bottling. Complex and elegant, there are notes of dried herbs, earth and leather, the palate flavourful with plummy fruit made supple by silky tannins.

Sommelier’s Recommendation Boscarelli is the greatest grower and winery in the region of Montepulciano, in Tuscany. This is confusing as the Village of Montepulciano grows Sangiovese and then pops a few fragrant indigenous varietals to help it jump out of the glass. This is the best of the best with soft, ripe tannins finishing a perfectly balanced and complex aromas and flavours

While the land has been in the family for several generations, it was Luca and Nicolò De Ferrari who overhauled the vineyards in the 1980s with the intention of producing grapes that better express the terroir of the area. Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, ‘king of all wines’ according to poet Francesco Redi in the 17th century, bears a family resemblance to both Chianti Classico and Brunello, as it is made from  a clone of Sangiovese that, in this region, is known as Prugnolo Gentile.
