2020 Gibson “The Dirtman” Shiraz

$39.00

Region: Barossa Valley, SA

Viticulture: Sustainable

Winemaker: Rob Gibson

Established Date: 2001

The Gibson Dirtman Shiraz is a blend of both Eden Valley and Barossa floor fruit. The two regions are distinctly different in climate and dirt. Bringing them together allows us to craft a wine that celebrates classic Barossa Shiraz generosity and plushness, with a backbone of finesse for aging. Matured in new and matured American and French oak, lifted aromas of stone fruit and blackcurrant prevail, overlaid with nuances of smoky oak and sweet spices.

Sommelier’s Recommendation:  Lifted and complex aromas of  blackcurrant with layers of smoky oak and sweet spices. The palate is medium weight, displaying great balance and lively fruit characters while still soft and generous. The palate finishes harmoniously with spicy dark chocolate berry flavours supported by long lingering tannins.

Gibson Wines is a family owned Barossa Valley winery with over twenty years of history producing premium wines which are unique, scarce and fiercely local. Rob Gibson as a man is kind, generous and thoughtful. In this age of digital marketing and instant celebrity, Rob (known to his mates as Gibbo or the Dirtman), is honest and authentic, characteristics that are reflected in each and every one of his wines. Gibbo’s early years travelling the world for Penfolds have given him a breadth of understanding of viticulture and global wine styles which anyone would be lucky to experience. ‘The Dirtman’ is indeed, Rob Gibson. The connection to dirt runs deep with Rob, who along with formalised training in both viticulture and winemaking, also is a geologist.
