All hand-picked fruit. 60% grown on 80 years old bush vines in Blewitt Springs, the balance from a separate Blewitt Springs vineyard with 50 years old vines. Both vineyards on sandy soil. A blend of whole berry (70%) and whole bunch (30%) ferments. Majority free run juice with a small percentage of light pressings. A portion of the wine was left on skins for four months to add spice and depth. Aged in neutral French oak for ten months before blending and bottling. Unfined, unfiltered.

Sommelier’s Recommendation Aphelion translated from the Greek means ‘from the sun’ and this concept is the most important for this winemaker’s philosophy, metaphorically the idea is clear: ‘to bottle sunshine’. Using minimal intervention winemaking techniques allowing the sun’s life sustaining force to shine out of this wine. This Grenache is stunning! Crunchy strawberry and cranberries on the nose, A long length of flavor is provided by a beautiful line of acidity and just the right amount of tannins. Perfect wine to have for a BBQ with friends or a cheese and charcuterie board.

Aphelion has gained a strong reputation for quality and value. This has continued since Aphelion was established in 2014 by Rob & Louise Mack. Pedigreed winemaker Rob Mack concentrates on grape varieties that thrive in the Mediterranean climate of McLaren Vale, producing stylish Grenache as well as other regionally emerging varieties, such as Mataro and Sagrantino.

Rob started Aphelion with a dream to hand craft premium wines in McLaren Vale, to showcase the unique environment and the variety of each parcel of fruit. Being immediately noticed by the critics  Aphelion was in the top 50, then top 12, and then awarded as Young Gun of Wine Awards in 2017.
