2019 Pian delle Querci Rosso di Montalcino

$59.00

Region: Tuscany, Italy

Viticulture: Conventional

Winemaker: Vittorio Pinti

The Rosso di Montalcino D.O.C. is put in new 50 hectolitre barrels in medium toasted oak from Slavonia for eight months. Rosso di Montalcino has a ruby red colour. The nose is forward with liquorice and cloves and lovely roundness through the mouth. The red cherry, leather and dried tobacco leaf are nicely balanced with fine, lingering tannins.

Sommeliers Recommendation:

A delicious Rosso di Montalcino that is a great example of what can be done with Sangiovese. This wine has firm tannins, earthiness and vibrant strawberry notes on the palate. This would be a great addition to any lamb based dish or Bistecca alla Fiorentina.

Pian delle Querci is a family owned winery with a very experienced viticulturalist in Vittorio Pinti. In the cellar, wild yeast fermentations only that are temperature controlled in stainless steel vats, then wine is put in 50 hectolitre barrels in oak from Slavonia. Their philosophy is “Our wine is the result of what the earth of this area can give.” Pian delle Querci is situated on the hills near Montalcino and grows its vineyards in a mixed clay soil, very rich in loam skeletal, at an average height of 250 metres above sea level. delle Querci stretches for 50 hectares, 8.5 of which planted with vineyards, 6 of which with Brunello D.O.C.G. and 2 hectares with Rosso di Montalcino D.O.C.
