Traditional Piedmontese wine perfect with Italian pasta.

Sommeliers Recommendation

Dolcetto is one of Italy’s most misunderstood and underrated Varietals. When grow in great vineyards and crafted by those who understand it, it can be Piedmont’s best value wines. Poderi Colla’s Dolcetto has plush, ripe fruit, bright acidity and soft tannins that linger. Definitely a food wine that truly comes alive with a bowl of pasta or Barbequed meats.

From “casks of vino negro” to the grand crus of Barolo and Barbaresco, the Colla Family has been crafting wine in this area for over 300 years. Documents dating from 1703 mark the beginnings of the Colla family’s history in wine making with Carlo Colla, together with his son Stefano, selling “barrels of Rosatello” and “casks of vino negro”.

Jump ahead 250 years and we find One of Piedmont’s most important people in Wine, Beppe Colla, who took over Cavaliere Prunotto’s Winery in 1954. During is over 30 years at Prunotto, Beppe would make it world famous at a time when the wines of Piedmont were still very little known. Beppe Colla (born in 1930) who is said to know every vine in every vineyard around Alba, and was one of the founding fathers of the Alba DOCs in the 1960’s.

Beppe’s brother Tino acquired a wide array of experience both Internationally and in Italy and worked for Prunotto alongside his brother Beppe. He became the key figure in Poderi Colla when he founded the winery in 1994 bringing in his Granddaughter Federica  and  his son, Pietro.

All of the wine bottled at Poderi Colla is made from grapes grown on the estate, ensuring greater direct control at every step in the process, from vineyard cultivation to winemaking, maturing and bottling.  The wines are “human” not “high-tech” with an outstanding natural concentration of well-balanced components bestowed by the terroir and the vine (not by wood or machinery).
